Steps to make Cholar Dal With Coconut:
Soak chana dal (Bengal gram)for an hour. Pressure cook dal with 2 cups water. Add little salt,1 dry red chilli, grated ginger,1 tsp ghee, turmeric powder for 3-4 whistles. Open lid after 5 minutes. The dal should be just done and not mushy. Heat mustard oil and sprinkle hing,1 dry red chilli and cumin. When they crackle add chopped coconut and fry till light brown. Add it to dal.
Boil dal and add ginger paste and sugar. Sprinkle garam masala and add raisins. Goes best with paratha,puri or luchi or pulao. Serve hot.
